Family Mediation & MIAMs

Helping Families Find Common Ground

Before making certain applications to the Family Court, you will usually need to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM), unless an exemption applies.

What is a MIAM?

A MIAM is a private meeting with a family mediator, which you attend on your own.

During your appointment, I will discuss your situation with you, explore the issues you would like to resolve and assess whether mediation may be suitable. I will explain your options and the next steps, helping you understand the choices available to you.

Attending a MIAM does not commit you to mediation.

What Happens Next?

If mediation is suitable and you both agree to take part, I can help you work through issues such as:

  • Arrangements for children

  • Parenting and communication

  • Finances following separation or divorce

  • Property and the family home

  • Savings, pensions and debts

If mediation does not go ahead and you need to make a relevant court application, I can provide the appropriate MIAM court certification where the requirements are met.

Fees

MIAM: £130 per person

Your fixed fee includes:

  • Your individual MIAM appointment

  • An assessment of whether mediation is suitable

  • An explanation of your options and next steps

  • MIAM court certification, where applicable

  • There is no additional charge for court certification.

  •

Family Mediation: £250 per person for up to 2 hours

If you both choose to proceed after your individual MIAMs, I can arrange further family mediation sessions.

These sessions provide a confidential, structured setting to discuss the issues, explore possible solutions and work towards an agreement.
